We are in the home stretch!

Our specials for this week:
Monday- Music
Tuesday- PE
Wednesday- Art
Thursday- STEM
Friday- Media Center

Monday is an all day STEM Day. The first 2 hours students will be participating in the Georgia STEM challenge which asks students to make a boat out of one piece of paper. The goal is to make the strongest boat which will be tested by counting how many pennies the boat can hold. They will fill out their Stemfolio and go through the engineering process. Then, students will work at their tables to make a vessel for the egg drop. Please send in materials for the egg drop. No packing materials and the final vessels must be 12x12. At 1:00, students will watch their vessels be dropped with an egg from the top of the school.

Tuesday is a regular schedule.

Wednesday morning we have 2 in house field trips meaning they are at the school. Students will learn more about animals from the Chattahoochee Nature Center. They will learn about the seasons with the Orbit balloon.

Thursday is a regular schedule.

Friday is Muffins with Mom in the morning! It is from 8-9am. Students will sing some songs and then you will eat muffins and particpate in a few fun activities. The rest of the day will be a regular schedule.

What are we learning?
Reading
Students are practicing identifying long and short sounds of o. Some students will learn the long vowel rules like bossy e or two vowels. We will discuss suffixes and affixes. Please review what a setting is when you read stories at home. It has been in the homework a few times. Many students missed this question.

Writing
Students will continue to write various genres and choose their topics. We are working on adding details and putting how you felt in their weekend journals.

Science
Students are studying plants. They will compare plants and discuss plant needs. We are growing grass in our classroom. We will experiment with planting grass and not watering it and not giving it sunlight. Our chick eggs have been delivered and students will help care for the eggs as part of our Project Based Learning (PBL). Students will also research an animal and record what they learn.

Math
We will be reviewing math concepts. I noticed a weakness in shape comparison and identification as well as measuring weight with a scale.
