November's STEM book was The Three Pigs and the Scientific Wolf. This was fun for students because we had compared two other 3 Little Pigs story (traditional and the wolf's perspective) earlier that week. We researched as a class using a symbaloo. Students learned characteristics of wolves as well as names of simple machines. They watched an old commerical for the board game mouse trap and a scene from the Lorax. Then, students were challenged to work in groups to engineer a trap for the wolf. Students were very creative.
Group 1: Ava, Cydnee, Lillian
Group 2: Allison, Eliza, Noah
Group 3: Anahita, Gabriel, Owen
Group 4: Ahmet John, Kayla, Ron
Group 5: Courtney, Londyn, Olivia, Theothris IV
Group 6: Amiyah, Fernanda, Valentina
Groups shared how the wolf would be trapped at the end. Wolves were enticed by pizza, pigs, and candy!
