First Week

I hope everyone enjoyed the first week of school. The kids did well learning their way around the school and beginning to learn school rules and routines. We did many activities with the gingerbread man last week. The gingerbread left a note in our book saying he was at River Eves, and we needed to find him! We searched around the school but  missed him. He did leave us some ginger snaps. We made gingerbread characters, had gingerbread coloring pages, and read stories such as the Gingerbread Cowboy and Gingerbread Girl.

^ Students looking for the gingerbread in the library. Instead, we found a note that told us to go find him in the space we spend the most time, our classroom.

Next week, students will hear a story about monsters going to school. They will also make an All  About Me book in writing. I will continue to assess students to see what they know so I can meet the needs of each child. We will go over this pre-assessment information and your child's progress at conferences in October. You will sign up for these conferences at curriclum night on August 28th at 5:30pm. Mark your calendars and find your babysitters now! Homework folders and sight word folders will also be passed out on this night.

Please continue to send your child's folder to school each day and check it each night. There is a side for work and notes to stay at home, and there is another side for papers to return to school. One of these papers is the behavior sheet which is colored in green, yellow, or red. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to write a note or email me at daughertya@fultonschools.org. I will reply within 24hours during the week.

Thanks for stopping by. I will update the website a few times a month to show pictures of activities, student work, and detailed descriptions of what students are learning. We also have a kindergarten website  with important dates and resources.

About Mrs. Daugherty 2014

Hi! My name is Mrs. Daugherty, and I’m SO excited to be your teacher! It’s going to be a fun year filled with learning. I want to know ALL about you, but first I’m going to tell you a little about me. I grew up in Acworth/Kennesaw, Georgia. I am the oldest of three children. I have a sister and a brother. My sister has a son and a daughter. I love being an aunt!

I went to college at the University of Georgia. Go DAWGS! I earned my degree in early childhood education and worked with all grades K-5. I student taught in kindergarten and enjoyed every moment. This is my fifth year teaching. My first year, I taught Pre-K at Parklane Elementary in Fulton County. Then, I transferred to kindergarten at River Eves. I am happy to be back at REES with our fabulous kindergarten team. My favorite part of being a teacher is watching the growth from August to May as well as seeing the eagerness to learn.

I celebrated my two year wedding anniversary this summer and am enjoying each adventure with my husband. We enjoy playing board games, watching sports, and attempting to play tennis together.

I’m thrilled to be your teacher, and I know it will be a fantastic year!

Some of my favorites:
Colors- Purple and Green
Food- Pizza or Mexican
Fast Food- Chickfila
Dessert- Icecream
Drink- Water and coffee...gotta keep up with the kids!
Hobby- Making new recipes
Sport- football (to watch); tennis(to play)
Animal- Panda
Subject to teach- I enjoy them all but my favorite is probably writing.
Children's Book- It's always changing. Kevin Henkes is a great author for picture books, and I enjoy reading Chrysanthemum at the beginning of the school year.
